For a business video to be effective it doesn’t need to be complicated. Simple, one topic videos under two minutes can attract a lot of attention. Some of the most compelling video categories are problem solving, answering questions, or showing how to. All of these topics help prospective customers find the answers they’re searching for and learn about your organization. Simple effective video works.
- Share your name, title, company name, and industry
- Enlist help and support from experts on your team and introduce them
- Announce the problem, or you will address
- Give step-by-step answers recording each step in the process
- Be sure to highlight your product by recording multiple shots
- Explain how your product or service relates to the problem, question, or how to
- Share a call to action, which can be as simple as soliciting questions and sharing contact information
Caution: Do not script your presentation, use an outline. Scripting adds an unneeded level of pressure, and almost always sounds…scripted.

Uploading your Video to YouTube
When I first uploaded video to YouTube I used a Flip camera, which by the way, didn’t take nearly the quality of video that smart phones do today—my first Flip wasn’t even HD, however Flip made it very easy to upload with their software. When I first uploaded video without the Flip software—I was apprehensive. There was no reason to be. It’s straightforward and anyone can do it.
- Download the video to your computer
- Go to your YouTube page
- Click Upload (upper right)
- Go to upload files and load the video
- Go to Video Manager
- Click Edit
- Add title, description, and keywords
- Approve video
Posting the video on your Blog
Ultimately you want your video to bring visitors to your website. A marketing opportunity that too many businesses miss is only posting their videos on YouTube. That’s fine for brand recognition, but why settle for that when you can have the recognition and bring new visitors to your site? To create a vlog (video blog) write a description of your video, it can be as short as 150-200 words, and then embed the video in the post.
