A couple weeks ago, students from Central Nine Career Center toured TKO Graphix. When the tour came to the TKO Sign division, Manager, Lee Faulkner was asked, “What makes a good sign?” Lee said, “What turns your head? What makes you look twice? That’s what makes a good sign. That’s good marketing.”

Lee gave examples of painting techniques using a plastic baggie, rag-rolling with a paint-hardened rag, or using a broom. He told students to try something new, grab something different — set yourself apart. I believe this advice transcends what makes a good sign, or how to paint — isn’t it good advice for all us, no matter our endeavor? Set yourself apart.

A special thanks to Colin Hemmer, a Central Nine student, for shooting this video.
