5 Vehicle Graphic Design Tips to Make Your Business Stand Out

1. Go Bold or Go Home

As I write this, I’m visiting my daughter and her family in Orlando. I drove from Indianapolis. I saw 1400 miles of fleet graphics, and one of the most common mistakes I saw were letters and logos too small to read. Tractor-trailers with their names posted with two-inch letters on the door. The letters were so small they were impossible to read at 65 MPH. There were company cars, vans, and work trucks, all with lettering too small to read.

Not only should your logo or lettering be big enough to read at 65 MPH, but it should also stand out. Your copy should be bold. Large letters that contrast nicely against the background, letters outlined in complementary colors, or letters shadowed to create a 3D effect. Go bold or go home.

2. Repeat Your Logo

Your logo is the cornerstone of your brand. It unifies your brand and makes your business recognizable. One way to capitalize on presenting your brand is to use design elements from your logo and repeat it in the background. Depending on the logo, it could be enlarged, lightened, or shadowed behind the logo. Done right, the design stands out without overpowering your logo or message.

3. Point to Your Brand with a Band of Color

Human eyes like to follow lines. We want to see where lines or bands of color are going. A band is a broad stroke of color that flows across the design of your vehicle.

It can be wide or thin, straight or angled, arched, vertical, horizontal, or oblique. The best bands lead eyes to a vehicle graphics message and call to action.

4. Make it Easy to Find You with Icons

It’s easy to leave icons out of your vehicle graphic design. But they can help you connect with customers. For example, social media icons such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram only take up a small amount of space but can make a huge impact. Potential customers can easily find you on their favorite network.

Other icons, symbols, or logos to include are associations, awards, and well-known suppliers.

5. Tell Your Story with Illustrations and Images

Images, illustrations, and photos are all effective methods to make your vehicle graphic design stand out in a crowd.

“When people hear information, they’re likely to remember only 10% of that information three days later. However, if a relevant image is paired with that same information, people retained 65% of the information three days later.” — HubSpot — 50 Visual Content Marketing Statistics You Should Know in 2021
